The restive state of Manipur needs a leader like Irabot who worked for the welfare of the people, particularly for the poor farmers so that the people can be led in the right direction, said Health and Family Welfare minister, Ph Parijat today.
The minister was addressing as chief guest in a function held at Laikhurembi ground, Khurai Sajor Leikai organized by the CPI Khurai Local Council in connection with the month long celebration of the 114th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot.
Stating that Irabot not only worked for the upliftment of the status of poor farmers of the state but for saving Manipur, Parijat further said that in the prevailing tense situation in the state where people with vested interests are talking about breaking the territorial integrity of Manipur, a leader like Irabot is needed.
He further said people with faith in communism, keep aside their own interests and work for the welfare for the people asserting that he himself has contested elections five times as a nominee of CPI but he has never thought of deserting his party.
The CPI does not hoodwinhk the people for political gain or for power.
Rather it has always worked for the upliftment of the weaker section of the society and for improving the condition of poor farmers, the chief guest added.
Earlier, the chief guest unveiled of a portrait of Irabot at office of the CPI local council and also led the people in offering floral tributes to the leader of the yesteryears.
March past contingents of students of Success High School, Khurai Popular High School, Young Pioneer School, Jatra English School and volunteers of All Manipur Nupi Marup also saluted the portrait of Irabot unveiled by the chief guest today.
CPI leaders, former minister Dr M Nara, follower of Irabot Ningthoujam Binoy, state secretary Langol Iboyaima and assistant secretary, L Sotinkumar, adorned the dais in the celebration.
The CPI, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa local council also organized a painting competition at Bright Way Club, Heinoukhongnembi Lamdeng Leikai to mark the month long birth anniversary celebration of Irabot.
Prizes to the position holders of the competition were distributed in a function graced by state secretary, L Iboyaima as chief guest.
Former minister, Dr M Nara and assistant state secretary, L Sotinkumar attended as president and guests of honour respectively.
