Imphal, September 19, 2010:
Following sudden suspension of the economic blockade imposed by some Naga civil organisations on national highways for around five months with brief intermittent breaks, about 108 goods laden trucks crossed Mao for Imphal today without security escorts.
On the other hand, around 300 empty trucks which started from Imphal without security escorts have crossed Mao Gate without any untoward incident, said a police source.
Notably, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram stated that six battalions were deployed in Nagaland and another six in Manipur to protect national highways in view of the prolonged highway blockade.
In the course of the five month long highway blockade, several trucks were vandalised and set ablaze on NH 39 and NH 53 including many in Nagaland.
