Imphal, November 05 2008:
Timely intervention by police personnel and pacification by authorities of RIMS Hospital averted escalation of tension following death of a woman patient related to delivery case.
Tension was reportedly brewing at the hospital after the woman identified as one Shamulailatpam (O) Chanchan Devi (32) w/o Sh Bimolchand Sharma of Kanto Sabal Leikai succumbed to excessive bleeding which the patient party put it on negligence by medical personnel.
Chanchan, who was admitted to the Gynae Ward of the Hospital on November 3 delivered a baby boy the same day at around 9.30 am through normal delivery.
However, as complications developed later in the evening the new mother was operated the next afternoon during which her womb had to be removed.
Even then her condition deteriorated further necessitating another operation last night.
She ultimately passed away this morning.
Contrary to the patient party accusing doctors of negligence, RIMS authorities pointed to excessive bleeding as the possible cause of death which they also opined is a very rare occurrence.
As high tension persisted in the hospital with the patient party unwilling to relent from their stance, police personnel arrived and herded away the infuriated patient party thereby preventing any further problem.
Imphal West SP L Kailun also arrived at the hospital to personally assess the situation.
The matter finally ended after a joint meeting between the concerned doctors, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr Y Mohen and the patient party in the presence of the police.
