The underlining need for peace and unity among the people and development of the State has been reaffirmed once again during a programme held as part of the ongoing campaign for Unity, Development and Peace in Manipur at Wunghon village in Ukhrul district today.
Gifts and presents were also given away to the villagers during the programme which also coincided with the golden jubilee celebration of the village (1956-2006).Organised under the initiative of the Organising Committee on the Campaign for Unity, Development and Peace in Manipur which has been sponsoring such similar programmes in different parts of the State since November 18, the function was attended by Committee convenor and AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng, AMESCO president IB Luwang, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Manipur L Memchoubi, AMUCO advisors Thounaojam Iboyaima and Dr Dhanabir Laishram and village headman S Raising as presidium members.
In connection with the golden jubilee celebration of the village, the organising committee of the campaign presented one pressure cooker to each of the women of the village who have married men from other villages and blankets to all the village elders.
Expressing her sentiment, one of the women who came to participate in the function said she would remember the gesture every day of her life whenever she cooks meal for the family.
It would also be of great help during the Christmas festival.
Speaking at the occasion, AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng said if there is unity among the people, there is nothing which we could not achieve and there would also be peace.
It is with the main objective of bringing together all the Mongoloid people that campaign is being launched since November 18, he added.
AMESCO vice president NS Guite said despite the difference of our skin colour and languages spoken, all of us are essentially one with a common objective and goal.
AMUCO advisor Thounaojam Iboyaima observed that unity, peace and development is the best legacy that the older generation should left behind for the generations to come.
While maintaining that hill and valley people are inseparable, another AMUCO advisor Dr Dhanabir Laishram exhorted all to work toward promoting peace and unity and bring about socio-economic and political justice in Manipuri society.
Chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission Retired Justice WA Shishak unveiled the memorial stone of the golden jubilee celebration.
Song and Drama Division of Ministry of Information and Publicity also presented a drama titled 'Eikhoi Punna Hingminnashi' at the occasion.
