Imphal, December 20:
Asserting that the State Government has rescinded on the Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) on September 20 this year, the student body alleged that the SPF Government led by O Ibobi is anti-tribal.
According to the MoU, where ever there is a backlog of ST reservation exceeding 50 percent of the vacancies taken together with the normal percentage of reservation for ST available in the current recruitment, the vacancies will be filled up to 50 percent of the advertised vacancies, quoted a statement issued by ATSUM.
While leaving the matter for a total boycott of the SPF Ministers, MLAs and their parties to the wisdom of tribal peoples, the student body demanded resignation of Education Minister L Nandakumar from his chair gracefully.
ATSUM also demanded disciplinary action against Commissioner (Edn) and other officials involved with the 'issue'.
It declared that all offices under the Dept of Edn would be sealed indefinitely with effect from tomorrow.
Any employee or individual defying the prohibition should bear the responsibility of any untoward incident, warned the statement.
"There are some issues ATSUM can reconcile and negotiate but the issue concerning education which we have been consistently fighting for the last more than 5 years cannot be compromised, negotiated and reconsidered", it concluded.
