Four volunteers of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) Lamlai Local Council have been sent to jail today on alleged charge of assaulting a policeman while carrying out drive after producing them in the court of JMIC First Class, Imphal/Duty Magistrate A Nouteneshori as they could not furnish the surety bond.
Lamlai police arrested the four AMADA activists identified as Moirangthem Sanjit (24) of Thamnapokpi, Kangujam Khoi alias Surchandra (24) of Lamlai Mayai Leikai, Sanasam Helen (24) of Lamlai Makha Leikai and Takhelmayum Boiyai (21) yesterday following a complaint filed by Baleshore Tangkhul who works as a driver in the Police Reserve Line of Imphal East Police in this connection.
Consequently, the four arrested individuals were produced before the court of the Duty Magistrate today.
But as they could not furnish the surety bond, they were sent to the jail despite granting bail by the Duty Magistrate.
The Duty Magistrate also directed the police to produce all four of them in the Court on August 25 again.
According to information received by the press, AMADA activists of Lamlai Local Council came across two persons drinking liquor in a drinking joint during the course of their drive.
Both the persons were set aside and a search of drinking joint was conducted.
During the search, four packets of Liquor were recovered and kept the same on the table and resumed the search.
After the search was over, one of the packets was found missing.
While body searching, the missing packet was recovered from the possession of the two drinkers and AMADA activists thrashed them.
The four AMADA activists were reportedly called up by OC of Lamlai Police Station for talks and they were arrested.
