The Imphal Bazar Communities board, Convenor Amrik Singh Pahwa today demanded to the Prime Minister to open a passport office in Imphal.
During the tenure as Prime Minister many achievements and good works in the common interest of the people is worth appreciation.
The people of Manipur would be highly grateful if one more good work is initiated he said.
The only regional passport office at Guwahati meant for Eastern region 7 states is at a far distance for the people of Manipur.
It costs Rs 5530 for an applicant to go by air or to travel 18 hours by bus as there is no Rail link.
May be small state but rich in culture and Sport-men of international standard bringing laurels for our country.
Being economically backward the unnecessary transport expenditure is a heavy burden and also a lot of inconvenience for the people of Manipur.
All other states are adjoining Guwahati where as Manipur is at a long distance.
It is a cherished dream for its people to have a passport office at Imphal.
The assurance given by Chief Passport officer during one of the TAAI meeting attended by undersigned held at Mumbai long back is not materialized.
He assured the possibility which was welcomed by the people.
As there is no industry and no scopes for any job the poor educated unemployed youths are unable to do anything else and going to Guwahati is heavy burden.
