Imphal, May 23:
National secretary of BJP Meinam Bhorot has stated that there is no question of removing the State unit party president just because he was defeated in the Parliamentary election.
Bhorot outrightly rejected all the charges levelled against the party's State unit president, Th Chaoba by State Councillors and said that none of the charges carry any weight.
The party is presently preoccupied with more serious issues; he said adding that it was very unfortunate the State councillors have raised the issue simply at their own interest without ever having consulted other party leaders.
He further said that most of the councillors who have put their signatures on the application for convening a meeting to discuss impeachment of unit party president are from Imphal East District.
The prevailing political scenario in the State and the present issue is also within the knowledge of National Secretary of the party's North East in-charge V Satish, so there would be no change of party leadership, Bhorot assured and added that State visit made by Satish, who left Imphal today, was for strengthening the position of the State unit.
Bhorot also reassured that all out efforts would be made for consolidating the position of the party in the State by consulting with other Central leaders of the party.
BJP Legislature Party leader RK Dorendra said that as per constitution of the party the power on whether a meeting of the State councillors should be called or not rest in the hands of the party president and the issue being raised is not at all an important one.
