Erupting in protest against the killing of a teacher by unidentified gunmen yesterday, infuriated people of Samurou today staged Wakat Meepham and erected road block even as the JAC formed in connection with the killing has announced its decision of calling indefinite Mayai Lambi bandh with effect from 5 pm tomorrow.
Moirangthem Ibomcha Singh of Samurou Awang Leikai, a teacher, who was also in-charge of headmaster of Haoreibi High School was shot dead by unidentified gunmen last evening.

In protest against the killing, a large number of womenfolk staged a Wakat Meepham at Samurou Bazar since early morning today putting up placards inscribed with slogans like 'We condemn killing of innocent person', 'Don't convert Manipur into a killing field', 'Stop killing', etc.
Simultaneously, attempts were also made by the people not to allow any vehicular traffic along the Mayai Lambi route.
Later during the day, infuriated youths of the area blocked the Mayai Lambi at two points along with burning tyres.
However, the protestors were dispersed and the road cleared by the personnel of Wangoi Police Station.
Participating in the Wakat Meepham, Leirentombi, the newly widowed wife of Ibomcha, appealed to the Government as well as to all the UG groups concerned to let the public know why her husband had been killed.
Meanwhile, the JAC formed in connection with the killing has announced its decision of calling an indefinite bandh along the Mayai Lambi route with effect from 5 pm tomorrow in case the Government fails to find out the killers.
However, educational institutions, religious function and other essential services would be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
On the other hand, in connection with the shoot out incident at Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai Lairakhong Mamei on the intervening night of December 21 and 22 in which the Police Commandos killed one Tajuddin of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, people of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai Lairakhong Mamei area staged a protest demonstration today urging all concerned not to open fire in inhabited area and cause panic among the people.
