Imphal, December 23 2008:
THE UNITED Committee Manipur (UCM), recalling the statement of DGP to take up action against those organisations in SoO, who break the ground rules of SoO, demanded the state government to take up immediate action over the UG groups who had violated the ground rules.
In a press release issued by Secretary Information and public relation,BM Yaima Shah, the UCM stated that one Kuki underground organisation has been torturing the villagers of Ikou and its neighbouring village.
The two villages are lying within the two posts of Assam Rifles at Sagolmang and Saikul.
Besides, the Saikul Police Station is also within three kilometers from the villages.
But the villagers are not getting any help from the police and Assam Rifles.
Recently, one UG group under the SoO demanded paddy and money from the villagers.
There were also cases of villagers fleeing in fear.
So, the government should take immediate action against the UG group and provide security to the villagers, the UCM insisted.
The various civil bodies of the Kuki community should press the UG groups to stop such acts, said the release.
UCM also appealed the civil societies and organisations of state to help and cooperate in such situation.
