Imphal, April 07:
The State Government is set to rope in the service of the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the disproportionate assets of three IAS officers and two IPS officers.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a highly placed source said that the State Govt has decided to check the disproportionate assets and wealth of a number of officers and the decision to rope in the service of the CBI to investigate the assets of three IAS officers and two IPS officers was taken as the first step to crack down on corrupt officers.
Refusing to divulge the names of the three IAS officers and the two IPS officers, the source however informed that the report submitted by these officers showed assets and wealth which were disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Taking strong exception over the detection of the disproportionate assets and wealth of the said officers, the Government has already served notices on them, said the source further and added that the authority has also raised a number of queries over their assets.
Other than these the Government has also come to know that quite a large number of officers have assets and properties registered in the names of their close relatives and children.
An order will also be issued soon to take up fitting action against officers known to possess assets and properties disproportionate to their known sources of income, further said the source.
Other than IAS and IPS officers, a number of MCS and MPS officers are also known to have acquired wealth and properties disproportionate to their income, added the source.
Police officers of the rank of Inspectors too have acquired wealth and assets beyond their income, said the source adding that the Government has also taken due note of this.
To a question, the source said that the CBI has not yet been formally approached to investigate the wealth and properties of the IAS and IPS officers and explained that the service of the CBI will be roped in once they reply to the notices served on them.
