Even though two massive trees have been felled for construction of canoes (Hiyeng-Hiren) at Senapati Dist, the authorities are unable to transport the same to Imphal due to remoteness of the area and financial constraints of the State Govt, informed an official of the Arts and Culture Dept.
It may be noted here that the State Govt had take up the initiative for procuring the trees for constructing two canoes in time for the canoe race to be held at Thangapat Moat in October 2005.The canoes are to be placed permanently at Kangla.
Informing that two trees measuring 75/80 ft in length and 17 ft in diameter has been lying at Khamson Village under Senapati Dist since last year, the official said that an amount of Rs 85,000 has already been spent on performing religious rituals for digging the two canoes.
