Expressing deep concern over the plight of the people who are reeling under the impact of flood, various social organizations have warned against cashing on the prevailing situation and hike price of essential commodities by businessmen.
Incessant rain over the past few days has flooded many parts of the State and caused wide spread destruction of standing crops and other seasonal vegetables besides forcing thousands of people to abandon their homestead for safer places.
In a statement, publicity secretary of HERICOUN L Sanajaoba said that the business community instead of thinking of cashing on the situation should have concern on the plight of the people who have been affected by the flood and try to extend assistance to the victims in every possible way.
Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) which have been reportedly opening flood relief camps along with the local clubs and organizations without any assistance from the Government at Kwakeithel Girls' High School, Kwakeithel Junior Boys, Kwakeithel Bamon Mandop and at TM English School, Uripok Panchay Maning, has also warned against hiking prices of essential commodities by taking advantage of the flood situation.
It also threatened of taking up legal action under Consumers' Act if anybody is found trying to fleece the public by increasing the prices.
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) while appealing to the Government for providing relief materials to the flood affected people and for taking up other preventive measures against outbreak of epidemic, has warned of action against those businessmen who hike the prices of essential commodities.
Meanwhile, Heibongpokpi Khul Committee, Kangchup Road, Imphal while informing that atleast four residential houses have been destroyed in the hail storm while many others in the low lying areas have been inundated apart from damaging large tract of crop fields in Heibongpokpi area in one of the worst natural calamities in recent time, has earnestly appealed to the State Government authorities for providing relief materials to the affected people at the earliest possible.
On the other hand, taking serious note of wide spread destruction in the hail storm disaster in Kumbi and its surrounding areas like Thanga, Saikot, Sugnu and Hiyanglam, Kumbi Adarsh Youth Organization has convened an urgent joint meeting of the people aforementioned places on April 19 at Kumbi Kangjeibung mandop.
The main agenda of the meeting would be discussion on loss of properties including livestock and urged the Government for assistance.
