Imphal, October 29 2009:
Alleging callous attitude in the charge sheet framed against the accused in the murder of 19 year old Ramchanphy Hungyo on October 24 at Munirka in Delhi, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong has demanded a CBI probe to deliver justice.
The apex student organisation of the Tangkhul community, in a statement today said that the decision to demand the CBI was taken during a presidential council meeting.
Demanding justice, the student body said that if justice is not delivered, it would launch a campaign against people from mainland India, staying in the North East in consultation with like minded student organisations.
Justifying its demand for a CBI probe, TKS said that the callous attitude of the law enforcing agency is proven beyond doubt because attempt to rape has not been included in the charge sheet framed against the accused.
The late Ramchanphy Hongray, who was staying with her siblings at Munirka, was often molested by the accused, as disclosed by her brother, said the student body.
The gravity of the crime is such that the whole upper torso of the body was found burnt beyond recognition, said the student body.
Despite this, the charge sheet framed against the accused by Delhi police is highly dubious, it alleged adding that the motive and intention of the crime are not included in the charge sheet.
Asserting that the people and students of the North East have always been harassed and subjected to racial discrimination at work places by the employers, landlords and neighbours, TKS said that the primary reasons for these are the physical appearance of the North East people (Mongoloid), food habit, language barrier and liberal attitude, etc.
To check the crime against the people of the North East, the Delhi police had formulated several control mechanisms, but with no visible solution in sight, it asserted.
The murder of Ramchanphy is not the first crime against the people of the North East in Delhi and it will not be the last unless fitting punishment is awarded to the perpetrators of such heinous crime, said TKS.
The student body has also drawn the attention of the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Manipur to intervene in the matter at the earliest to avoid unwanted incident and mistrust among the people of mainland India and North East.
