Imphal, November 23 2014:
Taking strong exception to the series of violence unleashed against people from North East region at different parts of India, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has resolved to launch intense forms of agitation demanding enactment of an appropriate and effective legislation for dealing with such violent acts of racial discrimination.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, MSF advisor Udoi Luwang noted that people from the North East region are being attacked, killed and raped in Delhi and other cities of India continually.
Even as the Government has been approached repeatedly to check such hate crimes fuelled by racism, the Government has done very little.
The Government still remains mute spectator even as a Manipuri man was killed at Delhi recently and many State natives were attacked at Bangalore, he said.
It is a matter of serious concern that the Government still does not see the necessity of enacting an effective legislation even as selective violence fuelled by racial discrimination has become a daily occurrence.
Even if the Government chooses to keep mum, MSF would not remain silent.
Apart from enacting an effective legislation to deal with racial discrimination, the Indian Constitution should be amended so that all the North Eastern people living at Delhi and other cities of the country are issued gun licences under the Arms Act.
The Government of India should also explain its attitude towards people from the North East.
MSF would soon launch different forms of agitation in different parts of the State and beyond in pursuit of these demands, said Udoi Luwang and MSF president KS Serajuddin.
