Assuring that fitting action would be taken if the rape charges against a personnel of 38 Assam Rifles are proved true, Chief Minister O Ibobi who also holds the Home portfolio today said that the reports of the investigation are being awaited.
Replying to a call attention motion moved by Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy and Oinam AC MLA I Ibohalbi, the Chief Minister said that the rape accused is presently in police custody and subjected to interrogation.
The Army has also instituted its own Court of Inquiry.
Listing the number of rapes committed by security personnel since 1976, Dr Bijoy said that the Veitum Khullen incident was in violating of Constitutional provisions as well as creating law and order problem.
Asserting that the rape and subsequent attempt to kill her was a clear case of human rights violation, Dr Bijoy added that the crack down on the women folk protesting at the AR gate was also a violation of fundamental rights.
I Ibohalbi said that Manipur is today under Police Raj and asserted that the security personnel have been violating traffic rules and regulations in Imphal with impunity.
The traffic police are unable to do anything.
