Imphal, June 18:
The tradition of giving birth to large number of children when many families are not in a condition to give them proper education may ultimately make the State as well as the whole country full of uneducated and ignorant people, observed MLA Dr N Bijoy.
He was speaking as chief guest at a health camp organised in connection with the first anniversary of Pioneer Health Club at Khurai Tinsid Road.
Even as Manipur has many educated and resource persons, there is still a great number of uneducated people, unable to afford education and other basic necessities.
It is necessary to identify the number of underprivileged children belonging to impoverished families so that effective welfare programmes can be devised specifically for them, remarked Bijoy.
He also highlighted the economic and social problems faced by families having large number of children.
The MLA called upon the people to check population explosion not only in the country but also in the State.
Stressing on the importance of providing health service to the people, Dr Bijoy conveyed his desire for Pioneer Health Club to function for a long time to come.
He also pledged all possible cooperation from his side.
The health camp held today was participated by about 300 people of the area.
