Imphal, June 18:
All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and in-charge of Manipur State Sanjoy Bapna paid a short visit here today to campaign for the Presidential election as well as to monitor the present crisis within the CLP.
He arrived here from Delhi in an Indigo flight this morning and directly proceeded to Congress Bhavan to meet the MPCC (I) president Gaikhangam.
He also called on senior Congressman and FCS Minister Th Debendra who is also the Chief Minister in-charge separately and reportedly discussed various issues before returning to Delhi.
Talking to The Sangai Express in connection with the visit of Sanjoy Bapna, MPCC president Gaikhangam, who recently resigned from the SPF Ministry informed that the visit of the Manipur in-charge of the party was a part of the campaign for the Presidential election of the country.
The election campaign for the UPA nominated Presidential candidate is being carried out in all the States with or without the accompaniment of the candidate concerned, he said.
When enquired on whether any discussion took place on the internal crisis within the CLP, Gaikhangam replied in the negative and went on to assert that there is no difference of opinion either within the CLP or between the CLP and the party.
However, according to sources, the visit of the AICC secretary was a significant one from the point of view of the prevailing leadership crisis within the CLP.
It is also likely that Sanjoy Bapna was sent to monitor the situation here after Gaikhangam hastily returned from Delhi yesterday while Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, IFC Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and PHE Minister TN Haokip stayed back.
Talking to mediapersons after his arrival from Delhi yesterday, Gaikhangam reiterated that there is no question of change of leadership of CLP.
Dispelling speculation his resignation concerns post of the Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam had made it clear that he would accept the post if it is offered.
