Power Minister Francis Ngajokpa has disclosed that the total due power taxes owed by the various Government Departments, both that of the State and the Centre in Manipur has crossed Rs 177 crores mark.
The Minister said this while speaking at the prize distribution function of a State level painting competition at Kangla hall today.
The painting competition was held earlier on the theme of energy conservation Ngajokpa said despite the efforts being made by the State Power Department to ensure supply of adequate power to the consumers, the Department has been facing lot of difficulties as the consumers do not clear the pending taxes apart from other reasons like decrease in the level of generating power and weak transformers.
Consumers should use the electrical appliances judiciously and make it a point to pay their taxes in time, he added.
The painting competition was organised as part of the National Campaign on Energy Conservation, 2006 and was organised jointly by Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Union Ministry, State Power Department and National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC).
Chief Engineer of NHPC M Lalmani Singh and OSD of State Power Department attended the function as guests of honour.
The winners of the competition namely, L Island Singh of Ibempishak High School, Toubul and W Ingaremba of Phubala Primary School would be representing Manipur in the National level competition to be held at New Delhi on December 12.
