Imphal, December 01 2009:
After BJP, Manipur People's Party (MPP) has announced its decision of not putting up candidate in the by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at the party office here today, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang informed that decision not to contest in the by-election was taken during a joint meeting of the MPP Advisory Committee, Legislature Party, office bearers and Yaiskul Kendra MPP Committee today.
To which party or candidate MPP would be extending its support in the by-election would be decided on December 5, he added.
Explaining the stand of the party on not contesting in the by-election, Dr Nimaichand said that it does not mean that MPP does not have any potential candidate but the decision not to contest has been arrived at after taking into account of the political advantage and disadvantage.
The main objective of MPP is to ensure the defeat of Congress party and fielding a candidate of the MPP would result in division among the anti-Congress votes.
This should not happen.
Reacting to remarks of CM O Ibobi Singh that education is more important than right to life, he said such remarks can come only from an immature mind.
Right to life is incomparable to right to education as the former is more important to all other rights.
Without life, how is one suppose to learnt ?, he questioned.
Meanwhile, Prof N Mohendro Singh of Patsoi Kendra and Dr S Priyokumar Singh of Yaiskul Kendra have been reportedly appointed as the vice presidents in charge of organisation and research & documentation cell respectively and Moirangthem Bishoi Singh and Aribam Rajani Kumar Sharma as the secretaries of MPP.
