Assam, January 19 2009:
THE ARMY on Monday seized a huge cache of ammunition and explosives allegedly stored by Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLK) militants to carry out attacks in the run up to the Republic Day in central Assam's Karbi Anglong district.
The recovery came close on the heels of a haul of 27 AK-47 rifles in Tinsukia district on Saturday.
Defence sources said the ammunition and explosives, hidden by the KLNLK militants, were recovered during operations in a reserved forest at Bhelughat.
The recoveries include 337 ammunition of AK series rifles, 9-mm pistol's 163 ammunition, 95 rounds of 7.62 Pistol ammunition, 500 gm explosives, 235 detonators, eight metres safety fuse wire, the sources said.
No arrests have been made so far, they said, adding search operations were on.
Threatening to withdraw the ceasefire from February one if the security operations continued against it, the KLNLF has urged the government to create an atmosphere conducive for peace talk.
The government was seeking "a formal communication" from the outfit stating its intentions for talks, sources said.
