STATE HEALTH and family welfare minister who is also in-charge of the labour and employment Ph Parijat has called for end to child labour as it amount to curtail their learning process and short cut their life span for the sake of future society.
The minister, speaking at the inaugural function of the one-day training programme of the NGOs and lawyers on checking child labour organized by the department of labour and employment at Kangla hall as chief guest observed that child labour is usually seen in the poor countries.
India is as whole a poor country, so parents used to send their children as domestic workers in the houses of the rich people.
He further observed that while engaging them as labour, children are affected in two ways, in their study process and their health condition.
So, children, the future pillar of the society should be checked from engaging as labour, he said.
At the same time, he also said that it is not an easy task to control child labour as when parents are ask not to send their children as labour, they would say to avail facilities of education and fooding free of cost.
Government can also make arrangement for availing free education to children, he added.
Today's function was graced by commissioner labour and employment, AR Khan as president and deputy labour commissioner NS Gogulmani, joint director social welfare G Sharatkumar and additional director employment, Sh Bijoy as guest of honours.
