Imphal, March 20:
Intensifying the ongoing agitation to fully implement Meetei Mayek in the schools and colleges of the State, volunteers of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) will begin staging a mass court arrest in a phase wise manner at Pologround from tomorrow.
In a statement, DESAM secretary publicity M Radhamani Chanu said that the decision to launch the mass court arrest rather than impose a general strike was taken keeping the interest of the students community and the daily wage earners in mind.
Daily wage earners are the worst hit section of society during imposition of any sort of bandh or strike in the State, observed the student body.
Condemning the State security forces for unnecessarily harassing the family members of several DESAM leaders while launching a manhunt for the students, the student body urged the state police personnel to stop looking for them at their respective houses but to come to Pologround and arrest them as they would be staging their protest there daily.
DESAM also asked the Chief Minister as well as the police officials to stop investing money and manpower in tracking down DESAM leaders.
The publicity secretary of the student body also informed that a team of the DESAM volunteers led by its president L Romesh Meetei will begin the protest at Pologround from tomorrow.
