Kohima, Mar 22 (NEPS):
The Chairman of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) conglomeration, Dr Hokishe Sema has today emphatically
drawn the attention of the members of the House for the necessity to
revamp the "Consultative Committee for Peace (CCP)" with the larger
participation of all sections of people including entire House.
Participating on the Budget Speech presented on the floor of the House
on March 19 last by the State Finance Minister K Therie, Dr Sema stated
durable solution to Naga problems could be arrived at only through
"reconciliation" amongst Naga underground factions.
Requesting the DAN Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to "kindly explore"
possibilities to revamp and restructure the existing CCP with participations
of the entire house, all political parties, the church and public
leaders, the senior most legislator in the House called upon the members of
the entire House to "let bygones be bygones." So that they can strive
for keeping the peace talks on track, he explained.
On the ongoing border row with neighboring Assam, Dr Sema said it was
"two way traffic" and "needs to be settled amicably taking into account
the historical facts." He, however, reminded the House that those areas, which were declared
Reserved Forest and later converted into Tea Gardens by the British
Government, should be transferred back to Nagaland.
"Only then, can the
borders with Assam be peacefully and cordial relationship with Assam be
established as before." Dr Sema also expressed his happiness on the lively debate and
participation by first timers like Takatiba Masa of Congress, who, he described
as well prepared.
