The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) celebrated its 37th foundation day at Manipur Press Club here today.
The function was graced by veteran journalist Kangujam Madhumangol and AMWJU president Khogendra Khomdram as chief guest and president respectively.
Fifteen retired journalists were honoured at the function by presenting them simple but meaningful gifts.
Two minutes' silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul of late Samurailatpam Gopal who was not only the Editor but also founder and publisher and owner of the Poknapham daily.
Speaking at the function, Madhumangol called upon journalist fraternity of the State to discharge their duties with dedication in the interest of the society.
Khogendra Khomdram iterated that journalists should follow the advice and suggestions given by their elders who have sacrificed their lives in the profession of journalism.

Former AMWJU president and Editor of Eehou AK Sanaton noted that AMWJU is the only body which have succeeded in bringing together all the journalists of the State.
Saying that the Manipuri society is now without a competent leader, he called upon journalists of the State to discharge their duties with a sense of sacrifice to bring back the society on the right track.
Former Imphal correspondent of The Statesman, Yambem Laba expressed his desire that journalists of the State avail themselves of the advanced technologies needed in their profession.
He also dwelt on the profession before the advent of internet and the boom in information technology.
