A procession of students marched on the streets in Imphal with the message to save the environment on "International Ozone Day".
The march was organized by Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) in collaboration with the Manipur Environment and Ecological Wing.
The procession of the students was flagged off from Kangla by Dr G Sureshbabu, Commissioner (Forest and Environment) at 11.30 am.
Students of various colleges and schools took part in the procession which begin at the Western gate of Kangla to converge again at Kangla fort through the northern gate of the fort after covering Palace Gate, New Checkon, Hatta Minuthong.
Many slogans were raised like, "Forest and plants are out friends", "Save our earth", "Save forests", "Save the earth", "Stop deforestation", "Plant two tree saplings after cutting down a tree", "Lets save Ozone," etc.
were shouted during the procession.
They also carried placards written with the slogans.
Earlier, before the procession was flagged off, Commissioner Sureshbabu said it is a must for each and every citizen to be answer about the changing world climatic so that they could feel the need of conserving the environment.
The procession carried out today would help in spreading awareness to the people on the need of protecting environment, he added.
At the concluding part of the procession, LC Sanatomba, president DESAM called upon the students to take part in saving the environment.
