Imphal, September 16, 2010:
Restriction imposed on plying trucks and inter-state buses on the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39 is still in force, reiterated the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) in a statement dispatched today.
The restriction imposed by a decision of the TDC is still not lifted, freight trucks, oil tankers, gas bullet tankers and other should immediately stop using the route in ferrying goods, the TDC statement warned saying that they wanted peace, not violent.
If the vehicles continued to travel on this route further defying the restriction, they might be compelled to resort in violent activities and many vehicles may be burnt down like that damaged in Nagaland, the TDC cautioned adding that any untoward incident to the trucks will not be responsibility of the TDC.
In the meantime, in the continued effort to improve condition of NH-53, a total of 52 trucks loaded with boulders have left Imphal with an oil tanker for using in the repairing works of 125 km to 135 km portion of the highway today.
Even though contractors stopped taking up improvement works on this highway TDC will continued taking up improvement works and also appealed to continued improvement works, may be by the state government or BRO.
Except two contractors, Mani and Jugin, other contractors had stopped their works on the highway, the statement signed by its general secretary Ng Haridas stated.
