To ensure education of children born to migrant workers as well as who have no access to education facilities, two residential schools with intake capacity of 100 students each are set up in Imphal West and Tamenglong district with funding from Union Human Resource Development.
To be set under the auspices of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), State Mission Authority, the residential school in Imphal West would be for children of migrant workers while the one in Tamenglong would be for those children who have no access to education facilities.
According to a reliable source, the step has been taken up by the Government with cent percent funding to ensure the education of all children.
In connection with this, SSA has also conducted household survey and school mapping.
The number of unschooled children in Manipur is said to be around 34,014 and the number of children in the age group of 6 to 14 years who are admitted to Government schools is around 2.3 lakhs while in the private schools it is 2.5 lakhs children.
