Imphal, December 11 2010:
Manipur is an abundantly endowed state in all respects with a rich culture.
But the narrow mindedness of some leaders has become a threat to the unity of the state, said Chief Minister O Ibobi in a function organized in connection with the 125th anniversary of Indian National Congress.
Speaking in the function organized by the Thangmeiband Block Congress Committee at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai, Ibobi said that people of the state should take equal responsibility for the peaceful co-existence among the different communities in the state.
He said that Manipur is gifted in the beauty of its environment and its natural resources.
The state government has been preserving the customary and political rights and economic freedom of the different communities.
The idea of peaceful co-existence in the state will be possible only when the different communities give up thinking on communal lines.
Government is helping the people in bringing about development in the state.
Government has taken up many initiatives to usher in job oriented programmes for an economically free state.
SPF government has taken up many developmental works in the last four years and will continue to do so in the future.
To achieve this the state needs a stable government.
The state government does not want any violence or any killings in the state.
It is regrettable that some people in the state have faced collateral damages in facing extortions and extortion related killings.
The state government is deeply hurt by such collateral damages.
He said that the state government would like to lift the disturbed area status.
But the present law and order situation in the state is preventing the government from doing so.
He said the BSF and the AR are being deployed in the hill areas of the state due to lack of manpower in the state security forces.
If the law and order situation becomes better, the central security forces can be withdrawn from the state.
In a speech, MPCC President, Gaikhangam said that he was surprised when some organizations in Tamenglong are boycotting the leaders of the SPF government on the occasion of Orange Festival.
Nothing will be gained by boycotting the leaders of the government.
He appealed to the social organizations not to boycott any government leaders.
INC is observing its 125th anniversary as a year long programme to make the people aware of the works taken up by the party, the works being taken up now and the works to be taken up later.
INC has its members from all walks of life.
It makes INC the biggest party in the country.
Ministers, MLAs and volunteers of the party also attended the programme.
MPCC, President Gaikhangam also inaugurated the office of the Thangmeiband Block
Congress Committee.
