Imphal, November 03 2011:
Though the proposed Imphal-Mandalay bus service has been approved in-principle by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Road Transport and Ministry of Development of North East Region, the Government would be making more studies about left-hand driving and right-hand driving prevalent in the two countries as well as the aspect of immigration.
An official source informed that officials of the four Ministries held a meeting on the proposed Imphal-Mandalay bus service on October 24 .
The meeting was also attended by the State Transport Director and the Planning Joint Director.
The meeting agreed on sending a joint team of officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and the State Transport Department to look into immigration formalities being applied to Kolkata-Dhaka bus service.
The meeting also deliberated on left-hand driving followed in Myanmar as against right-hand driving followed in India.
It also explored the option of changing buses at Moreh.
However, the meeting could not adopt any definite decision.
Nevertheless, the meeting agreed on entrusting the task of finding out the possible inconveniences and difficulties that would be caused by the two different driving patterns followed in the two countries to the Ministry of Road Transport and the Ministry of External Affairs.
The bus service to Mandalay is in line with the Look East policy of the Government.
The matter has been in the pipeline for long.
