Clarifying certain points over the MUSU election for 2009-10, the Election Committee of MUSU for the year 2009-10 today presents the low-down of the MUSU election process starting from the formation of the committee by the Union President on April 13 last.
The statement jointly signed by Ng Jasantakumar Singh, Chairman and four members of the election committee, Rajkumar Lilabanta Singh, Th Hemananda, Sorokhaibam Deben, Maibam Robinson said that the election date was planned to complete without absorbing a long time with an aim to avoid the influence of election to students which can be a hinder in the academic sphere which overlaps with the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
Saying that the election of MUSU is not conducted in a hurried manner, the statement said that there had been instances where the election was conducted within seven days after the formation of the election committee earlier.
It said that the Class X and XII original certificates were demanded compulsorily to prevent any unwanted practice of
cheating.
A total of 26 candidates including a research scholar, Ph Ibosana, (presidential candidate) have submitted their nomination papers for councillorship of various departments on April 18, it said.
The election committee statement said that the RO, Prof RK Hemakumar resigned from his post seeing a divergence of views and a scuffle among the students on the scrutiny day.
It added that an order was instantly issued by Assistant Registrar of the university Y Rasini Devi appointing Dr Aheibam Koireng as the RO.
And as per the order, the scrutiny was conducted fairly.
Apart from five councilor candidates who were not present on the day personally, the candidature of 22 candidates including the presidential candidate Ph Ibosana were found valid, it said.
All the 22 candidates were declared elected uncontested by the RO and a certificate acknowledging their victory was also given to each candidate, the statement said.
The statement also contends that the election was no different with other elections conducted in the previous years.
Non issuance of identity card before election, a brawl on scrutiny days, etc have been a regular event every year.
The election committee also said that not all provisions of Lyngdoh Commission have been made mandatory to be strictly followed.
It said that there are certain exceptions are bound to local/institutional adjustment.
