Imphal, April 21 2009:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have demanded that election of the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) scheduled to be held on April 24 should be reviewed as various anomalies have been detected in the election process.
Addressing a press conference jointly in this connection at the office of DESAM at Keishampat here today, the student leaders of AMSU and DESAM asserted that since various anomalies have been detected in the election process, the election of MUSU scheduled on April 24 should be reviewed and a fresh date for election be announced after proper process.
DESAM president in-charge LC Santosh pointed out that sudden fixing of March 9 as the last date of renewal of the identity cards of the students who would cast their votes, demand for submitting original certificates of the candidates as well as of their proposers and seconders unlike in the past without any prior notification and giving only two days time for filing the nomination papers by the candidates have confirmed flaws in the election process.
DESAM and AMSU would never tolerate any attempt to suppress the truth by such flawed process in the students' union election of the highest seat of learning in the State.
So the returning officer should rejected the flawed election process and a fresh process should be started.
Only then a notification should be brought out for conducting the election.
In case of sidelining the rightful complaint and demand, AMSU and DESAM would take up mass campaign all over the State towards ensuring proper conduct of the election apart from launching various intense agitation against the authorities of Manipur University.
The authority concerned should also be held responsible for any eventuality in this regard, Santosh added.
