Imphal, June 02 2009: Two gunmen has snatched away money and driving license of the district affairs secretary, Central Committee, United Committee Manipur (UCM), Md Equebal on June 1 last.

Informing this at a press conference at UCM office today, Equebal said that the incident occurred when he came back from Thoubal DC office in connection for obtaining permission for using laud speaker with the observation of the Great June 18 Uprising When he reached Waithou Chingol, two youths in civil dress on a Pulser brand black colour motorcycle asked for his vehicle.

As he refused to lend his vehicle, they took out a 9 mm pistol and conducted check on his possession.

They first claim themselves to be police commando personnel but later again said as KCP.

They took away the identity card issued by UCM, driving license and money amounting to Rs 1600 .

The I-card was later handed over, he added.

They insisted him to lend his vehicle or drop them upto Thanga.

He introduced them as member of UCM but they replied that they have nothing to do with UCM and scolded him using unpleasant words, Equebal added.

While expressing strong condemnation on the used of hard and unpleasant languages to the a member of civil society, he termed it as unfortunate thing and demanded clarification from the Thoubal district police SP and from the KCP regarding the incident.

UCM information secretary, Nilamani Kha-Nganba who took part in the press conference while expressing disbelieved of doing the work by underground activists and pointing towards the security forces said that government is trying to hate each other among the different outfits and civil societies so that they remain parted.

UCM will investigate into the incident and find the truth, he assured.

Taking advantage of the presence of media persons, he also observed that government remaining silent on the killing of L Satish is a wrong one and demanded government should check security forces killing innocent people immediately.

UCM will extend supports to any of the protest launched by the Committee formed on the matter of killing Satish, he announced.

He further appealed all concerns not to give any disturbances when UCM campaign for people's participation in the observation of the June uprising and seeking donation for the observation of the function.
