Imphal, June 26 2009:
The Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA) and Kuki Students' Organization (KSO), Chandel District strongly opposed the decision of the SPF Government to deploy police commandos and IRB personnel in the Hill Districts in a statement jointly signed by the Secretary Information and Publicity of KCA, Chandel, Hemmang Haokip and Secretary Information and Publicity of KSO, Chandel, Mangboi Haokip.
Considering the bad experiences in the valley areas with the commandos/IRBs including extra judicial killings, tortures and detentions on mere suspicions and fake encounters in which they term as counter insurgency measures, deployment of Commandos and IRB personnel in the hill areas will only disturb the peaceful life in the hill districts said the statement.
In most cases they are taking the lives of innocent civilians and in some instances IRB personnel and Commandos themselves are heard of involving in demanding ransom and even taking the extreme step of killing a person for sake of money.
Therefore, the KCA and KSO Chandel District will not accept the Cabinet's decision to deploy Commandos and IRBs in the hill district.
A good number of Assam Rifles personnel deployed in the hills is enough to tackle the anti-social elements if any as of now.
KCA and KSO will take up its own course of action which deemed fit in collaboration with other social organizations in Chandel District if the government doesn't revoke its decision further expressed the statement.
