Jail SPs, Social Welfare Director and Joint Director of MACS would be sent to Tihar Jail under the aegis of the United Nations to learn the treatment and rehabilitation measures being taken up there for drug addicts and others being imprisoned in connection with drug related crimes.
Being one of the worst HIV/AIDS affected States in India, the United Nations on Drug and Crime Control took up the initiative under a special programme.
Significantly the new initiative to sponsor State officials to Tihar Jail so that they can directly learn the way how drugs addicts are being treated inside jail is being taken up after the South Asia Prisons experts of the UN visited Imphal sometime back and interacted with prisoners held in connection with drug matters.
The UNODC would be providing awareness to prisoners held on drug and related charges.
It would also make efforts to launch oral substitution therapy.
The selected State officials would be leaving for Tihar Jail on July 1 .
