'Refrain from imposing Economic blockade'

Former Union Home Secretary, GK Pillai appealed to all the concerned organizations to refrain from resorting to economic blockade agitations for their demands, whatsoever it may be.
Speaking at the sidelines of the Manipur State Consultative Workshop on North East Initiative on Skill Development for Overseas Employment organized by the Indian Council of Overseas Employment and Manipur Skill Development Society held at Hotel Classic, GK Pillai said that imposition of economic blockade is a political issue but economic blockade on NHs only make the common people suffer.
The prices of daily essential commodities have risen sky high.
So this sort of agitation should be stopped at all cost.
Coming to the insurgency in the state, he said that that all insurgent groups of the state should come out in the open and have a bilateral peace talk with the government.
This will ultimately bring peace in the state.
The Indian government will also hopefully abide with the hopes and aspirations of the people and the insurgents of the state.
What is most important is to start the peace talk.
He also said that insurgent groups like the UNLF and the PLA is going on with the extortion with their camps in Bangladesh.
They have even established micro finance banks with the money extorted from the public.
Answering a query from media persons with regard to the agitation of Irom Sharmila Chanu, he said that the Home Ministry had suggested repeal of AFSPA according to the recommendation of the Jeevan Reddy Commission.
But since no consensus could be arrive at, the Act has not been repealed yet.
The consultative workshop was graced by former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai, Chief Secretary, DS Poonia and project co ordinator of Indian Council of Overseas Employment TLS Basker as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
