Seminar on Public Library

Under the joint aegis of Ministry of Culture, Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF/Kolkata), Department of Art & culture, and Manipur Library Association a national level seminar on 'Public Libraries in ICT-Driven Knowledge Society' was held today at Manipur University Senate Hall.
Besides releasing a souvenir on the occasion, MU Vice Chancellor Prof HNK Sarma, as chief guest of the seminar said RRRLF has made a tremendous contribution in the promotion of library movement in Manipur.
Observing that there is need for sustaining the library movement in the State through enhanced coverage and encouraging younger readers, the chief guest said if there is more demand for better books the Kolkata-based Foundation will certainly increase its volume of contribution.
Reminding that gaining knowledge is a continuous and lifelong process, HNK Sarma also noted need for ensuring availability of requisite infrastructure such as opening of computer centres at libraries in order to keep pace with the global advancement in accessing information through the internet.
RRRLF Assistant Director B Guha, Commissioner (Art & Culture) Dr RK Nimai, Department of Library and Information Science, Guwahati University's Prof Narendra Lakhar, Seminar Director Dr N Giridhari and Organising Committee Chairman N Inaocha also spoke on the seminar theme.
