Imphal, February 08 2010:
The State administration has started taking up necessary measures to bring back the Imphal-bound loaded oil tankers which have been stranded at Khatkhati following the imposition of the economic blockade along the National Highway 39 .
According to an official source from the Department of Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, over 100 loaded oil tankers are currently stranded at Khatkhati.
As Nagaland Government has not arranged for the required escorts these Imphal-bound oil tankers have been stranded.
The source informed that although transportation of fuel has ceased, there is adequate stock of fuel.
So there should be no alarm among the public on shortage of fuel in the State.
On the other hand, as most of the oil pumps in Imphal area could not ensure normal supply of fuel to the public, many of them remained shut down today.
In some of the oil pumps where fuel was supplied, long queue could be seen.
However, inspite of the closure, sale of petrol and diesel in black could be witnessed in front of most oil pumps openly charging upto Rs 50 per litre.
