Imphal, December 02 2011:
The BJP Manipur unit has demanded Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to give an unambiguous clarification on the reported offer of the Government of India for a Supra State body for Nagas to NSCN-IM as a Christmas gift.
A reception function was held at BJP office here today in honour of Dr Nando who quit Trinamool Congress and joined BJP.
Dr Nando is currently preparing to contest in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections from Uripok Assembly Constituency.
Speaking at the occasion, BJP State unit president Sh Shantikumar observed that the people of Manipur are jittery and anxious since the report about the Government of India's offer for Supra State body to NSCN-IM was published in the media.
Though the Union Home Minister has rejected the report as mischievous and baseless, people are still unable to put aside the matter and still remain unconvinced, he asserted.
To remove people's uneasiness and anxiety over the report, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi must make an unambiguous clarification before the people of Manipur during their visit to Imphal tomorrow, demanded the BJP leader.
In case, Dr Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi do not mention anything about Supra State body or stop short of issuing a clarification, BJP would assume that the UPA Government has a hidden agenda.
Decrying that the Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson never bothered to visit the State when people were enduring extreme misery for more than 100 days because of the blockade and counter-blockade on the National Highways, Sh Shantikumar lamented that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister did not give any response when a team of BJP State unit approached them and asked to send a team of Central leaders to take stock of the situation prevailing then in Manipur.
Pointing out that what transpired between the Union Home Minister, the Chief Minister and the UNC during the closed door meeting held at Senapati district headquarters has not been divulged till date, Shantikumar slammed Home Minister P Chidambaram for not enquiring about the woes of people and refraining from meeting with civil society leaders during his visit to the State at the height of the economic blockade.
