Imphal, July 07 2012:
Following strong public pressure over the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System, the meeting of the State Cabinet today has finally decided to seek the opinion of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs over the issue.
The decision of the Cabinet has also been forwarded to the Ministry by the Chief Secretary of the state today itself.
In his communication, the Chief Secretary also expressed optimism that the Government of India would be giving a positive response to the matter by July 11 .
According to information received by Hueiyen Lanpao in connection with today's Cabinet meeting, ILP was the only agenda taken up for discussion in the meeting.
Although ILP was in effect while Manipur was a part-C state, it was applicable to some parts only.
So, the necessity of seeking the opinion of Union Home Ministry has risen over implementation of the system over the entire state.
The state Cabinet is likely to convene another meeting on July 11 to take a definite decision on ILP.
Meanwhile, continuing to exert pressure on the state government for reintroduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur, sit-in protest demonstrations were witnessed at different parts of the state today.
At Thoubal Keithel, FREINDS, Kanglei Women Welfare Association, Thoubal Leima Self Help Group, Women Welfare Forum, Development Committee Thoubal and People's Welare Forum jointly organised a mass sit-in demonstration.
In response to the call of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), students of Fancier Abhiram Higher Secondary School (Thoubal), Peace and Freedom Academy (Thoubal Haokha), Paradise English Academy (Thoubal Okram), Blessed Academy (Thoubal Okram), RUDA Acasdemy (Thoubal), Vision Creative School of Science (Thoubal Okram), Genius Institute (Thoubal Keithel), MOirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Brighter English Academy (Bishnupr) Hafiz Brighter Academy (Keikhu), etc, also suspended their classes and demonstrated in front of their respective schools to lend support to the ongoing public movement for introduction of ILP.
On the other hand, efforts of the volunteers of AISF and AIYF to take out a rally to press the demand for ILP and providing unemployed allowances to educated unemployed youths of the state was foiled by the police.
The volunteers were coming toward the Chief Minister's Secretariat, when the police stopped them.
