With the water level at Lamphelpat rising following heavy rain in the last few days, houses and office complexes in the surrounding area continue to remain under flood water.
Lamphelpat normally serves as the natural reservoir, collecting rain water from the surrounding areas and the excess water is supposed to be drained out through the sluice of Samushang Khong.
However, with the water level of Samushang too remaining higher than that of Lamphelpat, from the over flowing water of the swelling Nambul river, there has been no possibility of draining out the excess water.
Consequently, the sluice gate of Samushang has been shut down.
With many residential buildings, Government offices and other institutions in low lying area of Lamphelpat experiencing water logging, flood affected people are putting up in makeshift camps erected along the roadside and herded their cattles in the open.
Flooding of the garbage dumping ground of the Imphal Municipality located near the Employment Exchange has also become a cause of health concern for the people living nearby even as drinking water has come a scare commodity as water supply has remained affected for the past couple of days.
To redress the problem of drinking water being faced by the people in and around Tera Bazar, Welfare Club, Amudon, a local club has been arranging drinking water for the people in five water tanks for the last two days.
In continuation of the humanitarian service, it is said that the club would be making arrangement for distribution of PDS rice among the flood affected people from tomorrow.
Among the PDS items, Kerosene is also said to be one that the flood affected people are acutely in need.
Meanwhile, Rongmei Lu Phuam, Rongmei women's organisation has appealed to the authorities concerned to ameliorate the difficulties being faced by the people settling along Langol Range following inundation of the area.
It is said that inundation of the roads leading to Shija Hospital and Games Village has caused lot of difficulties to the people of Guigailong village, located along Langol Range.
With flood water draining into Grace Academy colony and KRBCA office complex, people of the areas have reportedly shifted to safer places.
