Manipur State fisheries department is targeting to sell 50,000 kg of fish on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba this year at discount rate.
Among others, the department will make available rare Pengba and Ngaton which are once on the verge of extinction by producing for quantity than the previous years, an official source from the state fisheries department said today.
Official source from the state fisheries department said that the department sold 34,000 kg of fish in the previous year Ningol Chakouba and this year they are targeting to sell 50,000 kg increasing 16,000 from the previous year.
Like the previous year, the department is organizing the same Fish Fair Cum Fish Crop Competition at Mapal Kangjeibung on the eve of the festival on October 19. The department will sell Rou, Katala and Miracal at Rs 120 per kg, grass-carp at Rs 110, Silver-car at Rs 80, common-car at Rs 110, Curie at Rs 120 while Pengba at Rs 400 and Ngaton at Rs 350 per kg.
Fish farmers under the District Fisheries Officer, Imphal west will produce 5,500 kg of fish, 4,000 by farmers under DFO, Imphal east, another 5,500 kg each by farmers of DFO, Thoubal district and Bishnupur district.
Farmers under DFO Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Churachnadpur and Chandel will sell 1,300 kg each in the fair.
Penga and Ngaton are rare by the fish farmers in the valley districts and efforts are on to produce more quantity of these two indigenous fishes in this year�s fair.
