The year long observation of 100th birth anniversary of Sahitya Bhushan Haobam Tomba, noted folk drama writer of Manipur concluded today with a function held at the Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall, Yaiskul.
In the function organized by the Haobam Tomba Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, MDU, state commissioner of arts and culture department P Bhorot graced as chief guest, president of the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Nongmaithem Tombi as guest of honour and president of the Manipur Dramatic Union, MDU as president of the function.
In his speech as chief guest, P Bhorot expressed concern over the disciplines among the youths of today.
They talk each other too much but less in uniting to translate into action stated a release of the DIPR.
Our staff reporters reported that Bhorot said, the status of a society is observed by the literature.
Happenings and aspects of the society is shadow to the literature.
The status of literature is not so much less compare to the others.
But a shadow of not trying to develop it, is seems to be exist.
It is not a good sign.
Youngsters of today are seemed to be not willing to offer Manipuri language as a subject for study.
So, intellectuals need to encourage them, Bhorot stressed.
He also said that state art and culture department is efforting to protect and preserve cultures and traditions of the state holding workshops and other activities.
Many writers are emerging out in the state but giving interest in folk literature is very limited.
So there is no improvement in the field.
Late noted Haobam Tomba was one among the rare folk writer of the state.
Speaking as guest of honour, Nongmaithem Tombi said, the year long birth centenary programme of the Sahitya Bhushan, Hoabam Tomba was successfully performed with the corporation of the writers.
Workshops, symposiums and folk drama were held throughout the year as a part of the celebration.
The folk drama which appeared dying is seems reviving by the observation of the birth anniversary of Haobam Tomba.
The observation function of today was marked by the release of a dram book entitle "Meetei Chanu" wrote by Tomba by the chief guest.
The book was reviews by Budha Chnigdam and Lamabam Gojen.
Books written by Hoabam Tomba were also distributed to the gathering.
