Police dispersed a protest rally at Khurai Tinsid road as the protest seeking resignation of the chief minister in connection with July 23 fake encounter staged at many places today also.
Today, as a part of continuing protest against the July 23 fake encounter, sit-in protests were staged at Khurai Chaithabi Leirak organized by the Khurai Chaithabi Leirak Mayai Leikai Women Society, at Khurai Hekrumakhong, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and Tharoijam Leirak.
At the concluding part of the protest, women participating in the sit-in protest carried out a rally starting from their respective sit-in protest sites and marched toward the Khurai Lamlong Bazar at about 3 pm.
Before starting the rally, protestors also burnt down effigy of the chief minister, O Ibobi and shouted slogans demanding resignation of the "shameless chief minister".
After burning down the effigy, around 500 women took out a rally and in the midst of the rally, effigy of MLA, O Landhoni was set ablaze and proceeded towards Lamlong Bazar.
A team of Imphal east police blocked the rally from further proceeding at before reaching Lamlong Bazar.
Women protestors trying to overcome the resistant exchanged heated arguments with the police resulted in police firing tear gas and mob bombs to disperse them.
By the impact of the firing tear gas and mob bomb, the Lamlong Bazar broke and people scattered in no direction.
Dissatisfied over the action of the police, women venders confronted with the police.
The Tinsid was also blocked by the residents of the Khurai Sajor Leikai who turned out in the aftermath of the dispersion of the rally.
People travelling along the road were compelled to divert the road to other roads to reach their home after works of the day.
Womenfolk also staged sit-in protest at Kangla Siphai LP School ground, Khurai Angom Leikai Iril Mapal Yumjao Lairembi ground, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Uchekon Torban, Singjamei Super Market, Singjamei Okram Leikai, Mayengbam Leikai, Thongam Leikai, Langjing Makha Leikai, Sagolband etc.
Protestors at Singjamei later marched towards the house of the MLA I Hemochandra to urged him to recall his support to the chief minister, O Ibobi.
In Bishnupur district also, the sit-in protest was staged by the women of Kumbi Wapokpi Mahila Mandal at Kumbi, Ithai Khunou Nupi Samaj Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Ithai Yaipha Thourang Lup, at Ethai Khunou, Khordak Women's Development Organisaiton, Naodakhong Women's Development Organisation at Naodakhong, Nongmaikhong Meira Paibee Nupi Lup at Nongmaikhong, Laikhong Meira Paibi Nupi Lup at Laikhong.
At the concluding part of the sit-in protest, effigies of the chief minister, his wife MLA Landhoni, DGP, Y Joykumar and police commandos were burnt down by shouting slogans demanding release of the detained members of the Apunba Lup, resignation of chief minister and punishment to the police commandos involved in the July 23 shooting incident.
Torch rally was also carried out at Keibi Makha Leikai, Keibi Salam Leikai, Keibi Awang Leikai, Taret Khul and Keibi Heikak Mapal by the women.
The rally started from Keibi Salam Leikai and marched upto Natum Ching tonight.
