The impoverished people of Moreh who could not afford to buy even mosquito nets despite being in the malaria zone were distributed mosquito nets today during a simple function at Moreh Hospital.
The simple function presided by SDC Ph Ibohal was attended by numerous people belonging to different communities besides village chiefs of Moreh area.
Out of 80,000 special mosquito nets soaked with Delta Methrine for protection against malaria and malaria carrier mosquitoes given to the State, 10,000 were provided to Chandel district.
Out of these, 3700 have been set aside for the people of Moreh and surrounding villages who could not afford to afford to buy even mosquito nets.
Mosquito nets soaked in Delta Methrine solution are effective for protection against malaria carrier mosquitoes for at least 6 to 8 months, said one medical officer while appealing to the community leaders to make sure that no complaints come from the people.
Medical Officer in-charge of Moreh Hospital Dr Mani said that even as the State Government has transferred eight doctors to the hospital, none of them have joined to Moreh hospital till date.
Moreh SDC Ph Ibohal taking note of the shortage of staff and equipment in the hospital called upon the community leaders to take pro-active roles in redressing the woes of the people.
Moreh SDPO, Feroz Khan appealed to the MO in-charge to ensure that the underprivileged sections who could not afford mosquito nets and living in remote villages where electricity is still unavailable are provided the mosquito nets.
Today's function was also attended by representatives of Meitei Muslim Council, Moreh, Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Marwari Community, Nepali Community and other local leaders.
