Imphal, November 15 2009:
In an attempt to preserve and promote the indigenous foods and cuisines of the state, the 2nd edition of the Manipur Food Festival will be organised by the Board of the Manipur Food Festival from November 20 to November 30 at GM Hall here.
Speaking to reporters at the Manipur Press Club hall today, Managing Director of the Board of the Manipur Food Festival, Kh Athouba said, the festival aims to preserve the indigenous foods of the state and to promote the foods to international standard in the global market.
He said the Board of the Manipur Food Festival is a sub-body of the Innovative Youth Development Association, formed exclusively to organise the Manipur Food Festival.
He said culinary arts and specific foods of specific communities and locations will be put on display during the festival.
Participants from various places like Kakching, Moirang, Andro, Sekmai, Bishnupur, Tamenglong, Chandel, Kyamgei, Nambol, Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur and Imphal will display their food specialty, he said.
Noting that there are various indigenous foods in the state, Athouba also observed that some of them are waning away due to lack of preservation by the people.
He also noted that the people of the state have now preferred exotic, oily and spicy food items thereby disregarding the home spun foods.
Each visitor of the festival will be charged Rs 5 each.
The festival will be opened daily from 8am to 7pm, Athouba said.
