UNC elects new executives, reaffirms commitment

United Naga Council (UNC), apex body of the Nagas of Manipur has elected its new executive council.
The new UNC team, right after taking their charge, reaffirmed its commitment on the issue of 'alternative arrangement' on Saturday.
Led by Lohrii Adani as the President and five others including Gaidon Kamei (General Secretary), S Milan (Information & Publicity Secretary), NG Danee (Finance Secretary), K Marygold (Social & Cultural Secretary) and Kapani Krichena (Treasurer) took charge on Saturday evening.
The UNC Assembly Affairs also has a new team with Timothy P as the Speaker and N Kono as Deputy Speaker respectively.
The new team, elected for the tenure of 2011-2014, was administered oath of office by the outgoing Assembly Affairs Speaker S Milan in the presence of representatives from various Naga civil societies.
In pursuance of the Declaration of the Naga People's Convention of July 1, 2010 at Tahamzam, the new team reaffirmed its commitment on the issue of 'alternative arrangement' .
Accordingly, the new UNC members and members of Committee for Alternative Arrangement readopted a resolution, which stated, "On this day, the 24th September, 2011 the Naga people in Manipur recommit ourselves to uphold and reaffirm the Declaration of the Naga People's Convention held on 1st July, 2010 at Tahamzam.
Further, the UNC resolution announced, "It is also resolved that the movement for securing alternative arrangement for the Nagas will be intensified in all manners deemed fit under the aegis of the United
Naga Council" .
The UNC meeting was attended by representatives from various Naga frontal bodies including tribal Hohos, women union, All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) among others at Tahamzam.
