The Federation of Indigenous Societies (FRIENDS) today demanded revocation the order of allotting a 250 hectare of land at Langol area in Imphal West district to Assam Rifles for their use.
Manipur government has decided to handover the land under the divisional forest office at Langol area to Assam Rifles on the request of the inspector general of Assam Rifles (south) to give them some land for use of their personnel in 2005.After consideration, the government decided to give the land to Assam Rifles at Langol area.
Considering for the future of the people of the state, government should reconsidered the allotment of land to the Assam Rifles, demanded a statement of the FRIENDS signed by its assistant publicity secretary, W Shanta.
Before handing over the land government should obtain consent of the people.
Government should not do anything whatever they like.
If government is doing like this, Manipur will become a land of security in the near future, the statement observed.
Government authority should remember that the area allocated to the security force is the place where thousands of people are earning their livelihood.
