Imphal, May 19 2009:
Demanding two care-takers for every transmission/relay towers, the All Manipur Vodafone Towers' Land Owners and Care-Takers Association has ceased Vodafone mobile phone service from today.
Speaking to media persons today, advisor of the association, T Gojendro said that were 51 Vodafone towers in the State.
These towers were looked by two care-takers each.
But the cell phone service provider has suddenly sacked one care-taker from each tower.
Highlighting the hardships of looking after a Vodafone tower by a single care-taker, repeated appeals were made to the relevant authority to keep two care-takers for each tower.
As the appeals went in vain, the land owners and care-takers were compelled to launch the cease work stir, Gojendro said.
The cease work stir would continue until and amicable agreement is made, he added.
