Imphal, January 12:
Opposing the alleged initiative of the State Government to abolish 1447 sanctioned posts in the Electricity Department, a sit-in-protest was staged today under the aegis of the Manipur Electricity Employees' Union at the Electricity office complex at Keishampat.
Speaking to reporters amidst the protest sitting, a spokesman of the Union disclosed that a larger part of the process to abolish 1447 sanctioned posts who are currently discharging their duties have been completed.
It only remains for the Chief Engineer to issue an order to this end.
As per the understanding with the Employees' Union, the State Govet should fully implement the order issued on January 10, 1995, observed the spokesman.
Maintaining that the Union would not accept abolition of grade III and IV posts, the Union demanded creation of equivalent or higher posts for these employees by amending the existing rules and regulations before their sanctioned posts are abolished.
Saying that the Union would oppose any attempt to abolish sanctioned posts in irregular and partial manner, the spokesman asserted that the rights and livelihoods of employees should not be jeopardised in the name of rationalisation.
The employees asserted that job evaluation should be done under an established and clear cut guidelines.
They maintained that lower posts should not be abolished and intermediate trainees should be given the opportunity for employment.
The Union further urged authority concerned to complete compilation of MGEL while asserting that they would not accept promotion based on irrational work study.
